Article 10.15 / Articles 32.02 (2), 32.03(1) - Transitional provisions with regard to Article 10.15 – Cables – Vessels built before 1 April 1976

Which of the requirements in Article 10.15 apply to vessels built before 1 April 1976, starting on 1 January 2015?
Reply:
When inspection certificates are renewed after 1 January 2015, vessels built before 1 April 1976 will have to meet the requirements of the 1976 version of the RVIR listed below. (This interpretation is valid for Articles 10.06, 10.10, 10.11(2), 10.12, 10.14, 10.15 and 10.17.)
Article 10.15 Cables (Article 6.07(8) and 9), RVIR 1976)
a) Cables must have a watertight sheath, be non-flame-propagating, and of a type for naval use.
Other types of cable may be allowed in accommodation areas, on condition that they are efficiently protected and are non-flame-propagating.
Cables must be protected from all risk of damage under normal conditions of use, particularly on deck and in the hold.
b) It is not under any circumstances permitted to provide a power supply to mobile elements using cables with a metal reinforcement or outer shell.
c) Cables must be connected to electrical appliances by means of solid, permanent arrangements preventing any drag on the connections.
