Question:

Which of the requirements in Article 10.11(2) apply to vessels built before 1 April 1976, starting on 1 January 2015?

Reply:

When inspection certificates are renewed after 1 January 2015, vessels built before 1 April 1976 will have to meet the requirements of the 1976 version of the RVBR listed below. (This interpretation is valid for Articles 10.06, 10.10, 10.11(2), 10.12, 10.14, 10.15 and 10.17).

Article 10.11(2) Accumulator batteries (Article 6.05(3), RVIR 1976)

Accumulator batteries requiring more than 2 kW for charging (calculated on the basis of maximum load current and nominal voltage of the battery) must be fitted in specific premises. If they are installed on-deck, they may be placed inside a cabinet.
Accumulator batteries requiring no more than 2 kW for charging may also be installed below-deck inside a cabinet or chest. They may also be installed in a machine room or any other well-ventilated place, as long as they are protected from objects falling on them, and from drops of water.
