Article 19.06(14), in accordance with (6) - glass panels identified as emergency exits

Nowadays, large glass panels on escape routes are executed as fixed glazing.

Questions:

1. Can glass panels identified as emergency exits be broken with the hammer?
2. How then is laminated glass and plastic to be assessed?

Proposed solution:

Amend the requirement such that if fixed glazing is required on escape routes, only pre-stressed glass may be used.

RV/G (07) 71

Windows or doors are to be preferred when designing emergency exits. Windows and doors should be capable of being opened from either side and be identified as emergency exits.

If permanently installed glass panes are provided as emergency exits, they must be made of pre-stressed glass. The glass panes should be capable of being broken from either side and be identified as emergency exits.
