ES-TRIN, ESI-II-12 (1.4.3) - Detection zone
Question:
Is each galley, each engine and each boiler room required to constitute a separate detection zone?
Answer:
Yes, ultimately the purpose of the fire detection zones is the ability to locate a fire that has been identified by the fire detection system as quickly and accurately as possible. There is little benefit in combining the main engine room and bow thruster compartment to make one fire detection zone – in the event of the alarm being triggered the main engine room (normally at the stern) and the bow thruster compartment (in the bowel) would first have to be checked and the alarm verified.
