ES-TRIN, 3.03 (2) - Installations needed for safety of the vessel
Question:
If a car crane is used to launch a ship’s boat, is this crane considered as an installation needed for safety of the vessel and its operation?
According to this interpretation, the crane base may not be located aft of the aft-peak bulkhead?
Answer:
If a car crane is used to launch a ship’s boat, the crane is considered to be needed for safety of the vessel and its operation. However, equipment located above deck aft of the aft-peak bulkhead may be permitted and, therefore, also a crane for launching a ship’s boat, even if its base is below deck.
