Question:
What are the possible locations of the swappable battery containers?
Answer:
To prevent regulatory uncertainties, the CCNR and CESNI examined different configurations regarding the possible locations of the swappable battery containers (SBC). This is not an exhaustive list of the possible locations. To guarantee a high level of safety, this examination took into account following risks and needs: the fire safety (from the SBC to the rest of the vessel/cargo and vice versa), necessity to access to the SBC in normal and emergency situations, as well as the storage of other containers on top or underneath of the SBC.
In all configurations, the inside and walls of SBC comply with the requirements of ES-TRIN 10.11(17). SBC is always in the same place for a given vessel, so that the necessary connections for ventilation, data connections or the fire extinguishing system are always present.
